SHIVUDU - THE HERD KEEP'ER

The big gentle bull, very fond of green grass, cooked cereals and dhals. When we used to bring the cooked food near, he would shake his head as if to say "give it to me, give it to me". During mating season his testosterone would go so high it would not let anyone come near him. He makes his eye huge and roars with a tremendous sigh when he is ready to gore. When they are free grazing, some other outside bulls would come for a fight and he would throw them in the air and they would run off. Shivudu is a fighter, the protector of the herd.

NARAYANA - THE GENZ'ER

He is a naughty but gentle bull. When he goes out for grazing, on the return, he would not let us tie him, only after some petting he would accept. He loves the attention and the affection of being petted. He used to pick fights with Shivudu, often. One day they fought and bought down the thatched roof down. Narayana likes to eat green grass. He is gentler in nature than Shivudu and a little easier to handle.

GOWTHAMI - THE NOFUSS'ER

I named her after river Godavari as a gratitude. She is such no frills cow, while transporting them to another place, she just boarded the truck with one pull of rope. She loves her babies a lot and would keep on licking them. She has a naughty side too, she does not give milk if we do not feed her wet rice husk. She used to move continuously while milking. She has very different shouts of Amba. She is the one cow that anyone would want in their home.

GANGA - THE MANIKYAM TAME'ER

The fertile cow, very gentle to its humans but dominates other cows, the tamer of Manikyam. She is mother of Narayana, our other bull. Her spine is little long compared to others. She takes care of her babies very well. She is the first one to shout if the feed gets late or if she would like to go out for grazing. We are blessed that she is currently 5 months into her pregnancy.

MAHALAKSHMI - THE WHIRLWIND'ER

The slim cow with a fast walk that matches her voracious appetite. Milking her is very easy as her teats are quite soft, but she is an apprehensive cow and does not trust new people. After earning her trust, she is gentle and easy to manage cow. She is afraid of injections and her walking style is a bit different .

NAGA PUSHYAMI - THE SHREWD DEFT'ER

She was the first calf born in our goshala and was born to Gowthami, I call her 'Pothu' because of the size she was at birth. She was very naughty calf. Once she gets unleashed it would be difficult to get hold of her, running everywhere with her tail up. She drank her mother's milk for almost 18 months. She is paired up with Narayana when they go out grazing. In this way, she helps control Narayana even though she is smaller in size. She is very clever. When any cow would come to gore her, she would sit and lie low, so that she can avoid getting hit.

VARAHI - THE ULTIMATE LOVE'ER

The gentlest calf born to Ganga. Unfortunately she was born a little prematurely and was weak. Her mother denied her milk, so she was carefully raised by us. We would feed her milk from Pothu's mother Gowthami. She is handicapped in one of the legs, this made her more loving and would immediately draw the attention and favour of the caretakers. Her pet name is 'Ding Ding'.

ANANTHA LAKSHMI - THE SHY RETICENT'ER

She is born to Maha Lakshmi and she takes after her father, Shivudu. She is tag team partner of Varahi, they would come and hide after they finished grazing out. She is very calm, reserved and does not do anything uncharacteristically. She was named after consort of Sri Satyanarayana Swami of Annavaram temple located in Andhra Pradesh.

GAYATHRI - THE VORACIOUS EAT'ER

Born to Manikyam on Sunday, she was named Gayathri in honour of the Sun God. She is a beautiful looking calf and a fighter. Her mother would deny her milk sometimes but she is used to fight for it and end up victorious. She is voracious eater, she will keep eating all day and still be hungry again. She has tall legs and slim body and does not like to get tied due to her spirit for adventure and drive to run around.

SUBBU - THE SHAMBHU RUIN'ER

Born to Ganga on Tuesday, named after my grandfather to honour him. He has black eyes and calm, usually very naive, does not rush for food, just eats what he has and likes to be petted. He enjoys the company of human and licks you very much. Btw we predict that after growing up he would look like shivudu, his father.

SHAMBU - THE SOFT BROWN'ER

Born to Bangaram, a male calf, who would always be at his mother's teats looking for milk. He is a very good eater and used to pick up fights with Subbu when they were young. Despite this rivalry he is a very gentle calf who likes to be petted like his mother, he enjoys his meal very much.

GOVINDU - THE XTREME TREPID'ER

He was born to Maha Lakshmi when I was on trip to Tirumala, so we named him Govindhu. He was a very trepid calf when he was born and would run from people. After he is done drinking milk he stays by his mother and likes to get licked by her. He got diagnosed by lumpy skin disease recently but by krishna's grace he is safe now.

SAVITHRI - THE HURRY MILK'ER

Born to Gowthami on Sunday, named after Sun Deity, she is very gentle cow and loves to be petted and fed bananas. Her mother licks her so much out of love. She used to be in a hurry to get untied for drinking milk in the morning. She looks exactly like her mother.

MANIKYAM - THE LONG LEGG'ER

The tallest cow in the lot and strongest one, quite a beauty. It is difficult to control her when she is hungry and unleashed. She would not hesitate to gore and is a heavy eater. She used to pick up fight with Narayana and push him. Although she is strong willed and independent, she likes to be petted too like any other cow when her appetite has been satiated.

BANGARAM - THE SPOTY BLACK'ER

The softest and most apprehensive cow. She does not allow anyone new near her, once she trusts she would behave like a baby and be ready to come sleep on your lap. All of the other cows would hit her but she likes to be with the herd. Her motherly nature is such that even though her milk bags are empty she would not push her calf aside and it still allows to attempt to drink.
